Zebra Traffic

Set up in early 2002 by Robert Luis, Paul Jonas and Tom Simpson, Brighton based Zebra Traffic records (half-sister of Tru Thoughts Records) has been steadily and effectively releasing quality hip-hop music ever since. Having originally been passed a demo album by Mark B (from 2/3rds of Phi-Life Cypher; Life & DJ Nappa) and a Diversion Tactics single ready to go - the label launched at a time when UK hip-hop was enjoying a resurgence.

Dirty Diggers

Dirty Diggers

This, combined with a decent worldwide distribution network, in-house press & promotion and publishing & licensing departments, the label has been quietly getting on with it and over the last 5 years has seen the likes of Cappo, P Brothers, Phi-Life Cypher, Taskforce, Dirty Diggers, Headcase Ladz, Diversion Tactics, HUG & J-Zone, Up Hygh, Rup, Life, Digitek and more grace it’s orange sleeves.

Approaching it’s sixth year and about to drop its 37th release, the future looks bright for the label. With an emphasis firmly on artist albums, the label is about to drop Life’s third solo long player; ‘Outside Looking In’, alongside new albums from Rup and Dirty Diggers, plus some other interesting projects, there is plenty on the horizon.

» 27 Beats: Dream Farm / Remote World

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

From the people who have delivered acclaimed and seriously dope releases showcasing the skills of Rup, See, Naim and many more mcs and producers on cuts like Death Jam and Timequake (not to mention the excellent Mixed Nutz II compilation), comes the third installment in an “ongoing series of little records that look nice and make a lot of noise”.

Limted to 250 copies this one features the vocals of Dr Syntax, Jon Clark, Rup, Mole and Enlish, the production of See and the cuts of DJ Manipulate.

Having dug the previous 27 Beats output, and even bumped them to unsuspecting punters at open deck nights in local pubs, we think it looks like a winning combination, and the artwork delivers the goods too.

“27 Beats Entertainment pride themselves on their packaging game and this is no different. Renowned comic artist Sean Duffield (Paper Tiger Comix) provides the cover art, reminiscent of classic 60’s psychedelic poster art, which perfectly compliments the vivid, dream based sounds of the music inside. If that isn’t enough there are also inserts, designed by See himself, with lyrics. Perfect if you like to get your geek on and read along with the rappers.”

Copies will be available from the following outlets in the next week or so:

And for good measure - here’s the video to the superb Death Jam:
