» Clipse mixtape: We Got it 4 Cheap Vol. 2

Clipse

Much of the work done on this site over the last week or so was done with this mixtape on loop (and it still is), so we thought it only right you cop a blast too. You might be weary of drug-pushing related rap after a barrage over the last few years, and be warned, that is pretty much the only topic here, but despite that, an old dog has been taught new tricks.

There’s no doubting that the Clipse and co. are on top of their lyric game, and here we get over 50 minutes of Pusha, Malice and their pals Ab-Liva and Sandman (collectively known as the Re-Up Gang, complete with neighbourhood nerd Pharrell) dropping hot and complex verses over some classic beats: The Corner, Daytona 500, Put You on the Game and (don’t be put off) some G-unit beats… which gain new life when these guys get hold of them, all produced by Clinton Sparks who refrains from shouting a lot and gets on with with a light touch of scratching/breakbeating.

Enough babble, here’s the music:

These mixtapes are available for free download on the Clinton Sparks website – most of the other tapes look very dodgy/boring, just head for the Clipse ones. (There’s Vol. 1 as well, which is OK, but not as good). You can also grab it from Odeo. Photo by Angry Citizen.

"Long before the LA beat scene threatened to take over the pages of XLR8R, The Glitch Mob was turning heads with its party-starting and hip-hop-informed take on bass music. Now, on the heels of their debut album, Drink the Sea, Ooah, Boreta, and edIT have moved beyond the confines of their Southern California stomping grounds and taken their low-end rumblings to the masses. Fresh off a massive US tour, the boys put together an exclusive mix for the XLR8R podcast, right before they hit the road again for another lengthy run of dates." Link: http://dlrg.co.uk/xl-gm »
