Mr. Jago artwork Play Nice tshirt
Bristol based artist and seasoned recruit of the urban art and design scene Mr. Jago has a lot going on at the moment. September sees his first solo art show in London and the release of his ‘Play Nice’ clothing range.

We have details of the show and a set of 4 ‘Play Nice’ tshirts up for grabs.

Firstly, there’s his new show at StolenSpace in London titled ‘Cloud Talk’ running from 12th – 28th September 08. This will showcase new work on canvas, silk, wood & installations, as well as the release of 2 new limited edition screen prints.

Moving to Bristol from his hometown of Eye in Suffolk 15 years ago to study illustration, Mr Jago jump started his career by designing flyers for clubs and bars promoting the city’s burgeoning music scene. A common early gig for design students wishing to explore their style and get noticed, but nonetheless merit-worthy. Things snowballed upon setting up Scrawl Collective with fellow students, Steff Plaetz and Will Barras, with music and clothing companies clamouring for their gritty flourish. As a result, Jago’s artwork has been included in projects for Puma, Xbox, Yohji Yamamoto, Levis, Volkswagen, Technics and Boxfresh to name but a few.

‘I see figures & form everywhere, in water, carpet patterns, shadows, clouds, everything is an abstract character and they are free’ says Jago.

‘Of all weather phenomena, I find clouds the most fascinating, from the silky filaments of high altitude cirrus to the towering, threatening mass of storm-bearing cumulonimbus, clouds are as varied as the new work itself. I love cloud watching, from no where the fluffy mass morphing shapes from a cunning fox with whispy ears to familiar faces’.

He describes his work as ‘itchy’ and ‘dynamic’, with heavy movement and life, robotic characters and multi-layered landscapes feature heavily.
