About Ket

When graffiti was rampant in New York City during the 1980s, a Brooklyn teenager known as Alan Ket (aka Alain Maridueña) was at the top of his game. He spray painted brash images on subway cars, vandalized trains in Europe, and became such a fixture in the graffiti culture that he was asked to speak at several universities.

Ket was arrested in March 2007 in Brooklyn and charged with 14 criminal counts, including trespass, criminal mischief and making graffiti. If convicted, he could have faced decades in prison and huge financial penalties. He maintained that he had not committed any graffiti vandalism since his daughter was born in 1994, and that the images and tags that prosecutors are now trying to tie to him were the work of copycats.

Ket escaped a prison sentence but is still paying off fines today. You can find out more about KET and the case at http://supportket.org

He has since worked as an artistic consultant to companies like Atari, Moët & Chandon. the Cartier Foundation and MTV. Ket has recently returned from Paris where he consulted on a huge graffiti exhibition in July, he also worked on a major graffiti and street art auction that was held there in June. While in Europe he conducted lectures on graffiti and the law, shooting images and documenting the best and the worst of the graffiti scenes there.

"Long before the LA beat scene threatened to take over the pages of XLR8R, The Glitch Mob was turning heads with its party-starting and hip-hop-informed take on bass music. Now, on the heels of their debut album, Drink the Sea, Ooah, Boreta, and edIT have moved beyond the confines of their Southern California stomping grounds and taken their low-end rumblings to the masses. Fresh off a massive US tour, the boys put together an exclusive mix for the XLR8R podcast, right before they hit the road again for another lengthy run of dates." Link: http://dlrg.co.uk/xl-gm »
