Best of the beats
Our pick of the best mp3s and podcasts:
Napoleon Dynamite — RADIX JOURNAL (mp3)
Andy, Colin, Richard, and special guest John Morgan go in for a bit of the old ultra-violence in a discussion of Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange (1971). Can one truly be moral without the capacity for rape and mayhem? Is "Alex Delarge" simply a sociopath and thug . . . or an avatar of the übermensch in an egalitarian age? http://www.radixjournal.com/vanguard-radio/podcast/2013/8/14/napoleon-dynamite »

Glitch Mob mix for XLR8R (mp3)
"Long before the LA beat scene threatened to take over the pages of XLR8R, The Glitch Mob was turning heads with its party-starting and hip-hop-informed take on bass music. Now, on the heels of their debut album, Drink the Sea, Ooah, Boreta, and edIT have moved beyond the confines of their Southern California stomping grounds and taken their low-end rumblings to the masses. Fresh off a massive US tour, the boys put together an exclusive mix for the XLR8R podcast, right before they hit the road again for another lengthy run of dates." Link: http://dlrg.co.uk/xl-gm »

Road to Oblivion - DJ Pain (mp3)
A very atmospheric mix featuring lots of samples from the 1988 film Miracle Mile - a story about a man who answers a random phone call and discovers a nuclear war has been instigated (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097889/). Lots of great beats which all come together to form an uneasy feeling of tension. After hearing this mix a hundred times - I found Miracle Mile cut into parts on YouTube, it was never released in the UK and is worth a watch - apparently it was a big inspiration for Cloverfield.
